Shanghai is known as a mega-city due to having over 20 million inhabitants and has one of the highest skyscraper densities in the world. In recent years, this city located at the mouth of the Yangtze River has developed into one Asia's most important financial and industrial centers.

This city has may different economic advantages - it has the largest port in the world based on container throughput, the most important stock exchange in mainland China and also boasts many industries including chemicals, steel production and engineering.

Cultural center

Not only is Shanghai a center for economic growth, but also a center for culture. One example would be The Shanghai Grand Theater which is one of the largest and most important opera and theater houses in the country. In addition, Shanghai offers the Natural History Museum, the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and the Shanghai Museum.

Tourists are increasing to this great city due to its impressive modern buildings, shopping centers, historic districts and nightlife. In addition, Shanghai is the starting point for trips to other parts of the People's Republic.
